Aloha Grewenow Families!

I am excited to be back in my home state of Wisconsin teaching at Grewenow Elementary! For the past 4 years I have been living on the island of Oahu in Hawaii! I have been married for a little over one year now to my husband Marcos and we welcomed our first child Maddox to the world in January! This will be my fifth year teaching! I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in art from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, during which time I also completed the entire K-12 teaching program. I completed a second Bachelor of Science degree from Ft. Hays State University in Hays, Kansas in Early Childhood Education certifying birth-third grade.

I am passionate about the personal success of each student in my classroom. I strongly believe that each and every child in my class is capable of learning. It is up to me to find strategies that will drive each student to succeed. I believe that each child has unique strengths, varied prior language learning experiences, and preferred learning styles. One of the most effective teaching strategies that I employ in my classroom is that of facilitating instruction by presenting it in a manner that addresses the various learning styles of my students–visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. My instruction will be differentiated to provide enough challenge and support for all children to build on successfully and to develop positive attitudes about learning.

My lessons, which I plan, design, and deliver, reach the individual needs of my students because I incorporate highly motivating activities, chants, songs, and materials (pictures, videos, games, technology, manipulatives, graphic organizers, posters, charts) that engage my students in whatever lesson I am teaching. My lessons also include the rich experiences in the many languages of art, music, drama, dance, and storytelling to help children find personal meaning in school learning.

By providing a stimulating learning environment for my students, I foster their confidence and give them the courage they need to trust their own opinions, necessary to develop their critical and creative thinking skills. I want children to be active learners and disciplined, creative thinkers; to learn to make good choices and to work cooperatively; and to be kind and responsible.

Students learn better in a nurturing, organized, peaceful environment where they give and receive respect and honesty. Learning and the love of learning is an on-going process that is built-upon each day. My expectations of my students are high and by the end of the school year, my students realize they can achieve any goal set before them. It is in this manner that I instill the love of learning and the desire for constant knowledge within my students.
